Welcome

"As your State Representative, I pledge to serve to my best abilities the citizens of the area, by encouraging what makes this district great. This region of the state has been ignored for a long time - Funding Schools, Indiana's strong reliance on Property Taxes, Personal Rights and Safety as well as Economic Development are some of the few points that need to be addressed. It is time to stand up and make our voice heard."

Rep. Knollman Protects Consumers’ Credit Reports

(Statehouse) Feb. 7, 2007- State Representative Tom Knollman (R-Liberty) voted alongside his House colleagues in favor of House Bill1082, which passed out of the House of Representatives today with a vote of 98-0. The initiative allows consumers to prevent access to their consumer credit report by requesting that a consumer reporting agency place a freeze in the credit file. HB 1082 fulfills one of the 12 House Republican initiatives pledged to Hoosiers over the summer.

“Hoosiers work hard to build a better Indiana and this bill helps to better protect citizens that look to increase their opportunities in the state,” said Rep. Knollman. “Most victims don’t even know they’re at risk, but this initiative will help create improved protection to all Hoosiers across the state.”

HB 1082 prohibits a consumer reporting agency from releasing any information from a credit file that is subject to a security freeze, unless the consumer requests the release of the information. Licensed insurers and utilities may receive information from a credit file that is subject to a security freeze.

Consumer reporting agencies will be required to develop a secure procedure for releasing the information, no later than September 1, 2008. The authorization process will need to take 15 minutes or less so information from a credit file subject to a security freeze can be released or the security freeze can be removed.
